Topic: Commuting for Methadone
This web log is dedicated to methadone "commuters"--those of us who must drive for an hour or more in order to get their daily dose--and their families, advocates of methadone maintenance therapy (MMT), health care workers, and anyone who has an interest in MMT. You are all encouraged not only to read my entries and the comments of others but to add your own. You don't have to agree with everything--or anything--you read here; I do insist on common courtesy and mutual respect for each other. Please refrain from exceptionally offensive or crude language; young people might be reading what you write. Above all this blog is meant to be for, by, and about opiate addicts who, after trying everything else: outpatient drug counseling ("Talk therapy"), 12-step programs, inpatient treatment (including detox, intensive one-on-one and group counselling and participation in a 12-step program), and/or jail and/or prison programs, voluntarily or otherwise, only to end up going back to using time and time again. The methadone clinic is a last resort--a lifeline that gives us a chance to get our lives back together.
